Japanese Basic Phrases For Travelers / Arigatougozaimasu

Today I will introduce you Japanese basic phrases for travelers.
They are useful at shopping and in the bus tour.
When you use these easy phrase in your trip, you can communicate unknown Japanese peoples.

Arigatou
ありがとう

“Arigatougozaimasu (ありがとうございます)” is polite form.

“Arigatou” is the word to show thanks and gratitude.
The origin of the word was shown in Heian (へいあん) period ( about 1200 years ago).
The original meaning is to exist or being rarely.
So the opposite word of ” Arigatou” is ” It is natural. ” ” It is matter of course. ”
When you have service or kindness that is not natural, please tell them your feelings of gratitude with “Arigatou”.

Douitashimashite
どういたしまして

“Douitashimashite” is a pair phrase of “Arigatou”.
It is like  ” Thank you.” and “You are welcome.” in English.

I am sorry.
Gomennasai
ごめんなさい

It is OK./ I am fine.
Daijyoubu
だいじょうぶ

” Gomennasai” and “Daijyoubu” is not a pair phrase.
But it is convenient to remember here.
