Hi, this is Yuyujin.
Today’s lesson is little bit advanced one.
I introduce “Try” or “Try out” in Japanese.
Let’s get started.
Today’s basic pattern is “Verb + Temiru(てみる)”
This “Temiru(てみる)” means “try” or “try out” in Japanese.
“Verb + Temiru(てみる)”
Watashi Wa Sore Wo Tabe Temiru
(わたしはそれをたべてみる。)
I try to eat it.
John Wa Ohanami Wo Shi Temiru
(ジョンはおはなみをしてみる。)
John tries out Ohanami.
After the verb that has “N(ん)” sound at the end of the word, you need to change “Temiru(てみる)” to “Demiru(でみる)”.
Kare Wa Aono Hon Wo Yon Demiru
(かれはあのほんをよんでみる。)
He tries to read that book.
Watashi Wa Sono Kusuri Wo Non Demiru
(わたしはそのくすりをのんでみる。)
I try to drink that medicine.
Little bit politer form is “Verb +Temimasu(てみます)”.
“Verb +Temimasu(てみます)”
Watashi Wa Sore Wo Tabe Temimasu
(わたしはそれをたべてみます。)
I try to eat it.
John Wa Ohanami Wo Shi Temimasu
(ジョンはおはなみをしてみます。)
John tries out Ohanami.
Kare Wa Aono Hon Wo Yon Demimasu
(かれはあのほんをよんでみます。)
He tries to read that book.
Watashi Wa Sono Kusuri Wo Non Demimasu
(わたしはそのくすりをのんでみます。)
I try to drink that medicine.
When you make a question form, you will use this polite form.
Affirmative form:
Anata Wa Kore Wo Tabe Temimasu
(あなたはこれをたべてみます。)
You try to eat this.
Question form:
Anata Wa Kore Wo Tabe Temimasu Ka
(あなたはこれをたべてみますか。)
Do you try to eat this?
Anata Wa Kore Wo Tabe Temiru Ka
(あなたはこれをたべてみるか。)
Do you try to eat this?
This is possible.
But it is blunt and un-natural.
Answer is easy.
Hai Tabe Temimasu
(はい、たべてみます。)
Yes, I will try.
Iie Tabe Temimasen
(いいえ、たべてみません。)
No, I don’t try.
Or
Iie Yame Teokimasu
(いいえ、やめておきます。)
No, I don’t.
Or
Iie Enryo Shimasu
(いいえ、遠慮します。)
No, I am fine.
The last answer is polite.
Let’s make one more question form example.
Mari, Kono Jusu Wo Non Demimasen Ka
(マリ、このジュースをのんでみますか。)
Mari, don’t you try to drink this juice?
Hai Non Demimasu
(はい、のんでみます。)
Yes, I will try to drink.
Iie Yame Teokimasu
(いいえ、やめておきます。)
No, I don’t.
OK, that’s it.
Thank you so much.
Have a good trip!
