Hi,this is Yuyujin.
Today I would like to introduce another function of the postpositional particle “Ga(が)”.
In the previous lesson(here) I introduced “Wa(は)” and “Ga(が)” indicated the subject.
Also I said “Ga(が)” have somehow the subject’s will.
Today I introduce “Ga(が)” indicates the object of will or desire.
There is another postpositional particle to indicate the object, “Wo(を)”.
The proper use of them is complicated.
Today’s lesson is not easy.
Let’s get started.
“Noun + Ga(が)” and “Noun + Wo(を)”
In this lesson ” Noun + Ga(が)” indicates this “Noun” is an object of will or desire.
Watashi Wa Anata Ga Suki
(わたしはあなたがすき。)
I like you.
“Watashi(わたし)” is a subject.
“Wa(は)” is a postpositional particle that indicates “Watashi(わたし)” is a subject.
“Suki(すき)” means “like”.
“Anata(あなた)” is the object of “like”.
“Ga(が)” is a postpositional particle that indicates “Anata(あたな)” is an object of “like”.
And also we can say
Watashi Wa Anata Wo Suki
(わたしはあなたをすき。)
I like you.
Watashi Wa Mushi Ga Kirai
(わたしはむしがきらい。)
I hate insects.
”Kirai(きらい)” means “hate/dislike”.
“Mushi(むし)” means “insect”.
“Mushi(むし)” is the object of “hate”.
Watashi Wa Okane Ga Hoshii
(わたしはおかねがほしい。)
I want money.
“Hoshii(ほしい)” means “want”.
“Okane(おかね)” means “money”.
“Okane(おかね)” is the object of “want”
We can say
Watashi Wa Okane Wo Hoshii
(わたしはおかねをほしい。)
I want money.
Watashi Wa Eiga Ga Mitai
( わたしはえいががみたい。)
I want to watch the movie.
Mitai(みたい): want to see
Eiga(えいが): movie
Watashi Wa Eiga Wo Mitai
(わたしはえいがをみたい。)
I want to watch the movie.
“Aishiteru(あいてる)” means “love”.
It is one of desire.
But we can not use “Ga(が)” as a postpositional particle that indicates an object of “love”.
We can not say,
Watashi Wa Anata Ga Aisshiteru
(わたしはあなたがあいしてる。)
We can say
Watashi Wa Anata Wo Aishiteru
(わたしはあなたをあいしてる。)
I love you.
We can see some discussion in Japanese web site about the rule of “Ga(が)” and “Wo(を)”.
It would be difficult for non-Japanese.
I recommend what verb can use “Ga(が)” and what verb cannot use.
When I find a good rule of that, I will update it.
OK, that’s it.
Thank you so much.
Have a good trip.
