Japanese uses “No (の)” to express the possession.
The function is like ” ‘s ” in “Mike’s book”.
It is like “的 (de)” in Chinese.

(わたしのほん)

Here “Watashi (わたし) ” means I.
It is a noun.
“No (の)” shows the possession.
“No (の)” can be used in ” A Wa B Desu” expression.
Kono Hon Wa Watashi No Desu
(このほんはわたしのです。)
This book is mine.
