I am an engineer of Japanese electrical manufacture.
I have visited the U.S, China, Taiwan, Germany, England, Netherlands, Israel and Korea on business trips.
I always check the language of the country before the visit.
The reason is I am worried about the stay.
But it is not only that one.
When I know some greetings and easy phrases,
I can communicate with the people of that country.
It make me feel the culture little bit.
