Tokyo Camii |東京ジャーミイ|Beautiful mosque in Tokyo

Japanese Attraction

Hi, this is Yuyujin.

Today I would like to introduce a beautiful mosque in Tokyo.

Tokyo Camii |東京ジャーミイ

Many Islamic people emigrated abroad to escape from the revolution that occurred in Russia in 1917.

Among them, the Turks in Kazan have emigrated to Japan in search of a safe haven.

In 1935 they purchased land in Shibuya Ward and built a chapel.

The current chapel started construction in 1998 and was completed in 2000.

Tokyo Camii | Calligraphy| カリグラフィー

Beautiful calligraphy is applied here and there in Tokyo Camii.

The calligraphy contains the message of Islam.

At the entrance of the reception room on the 1st floor, you can enjoy dates and tea.

Tokyo Camii | Arabesque| アラベスク

In Tokyo Camii, you can see many arabesques, which are geometric patterns that are a style of Islamic art, as well as the beauty of calligraphy.

The arabesque, in which geometric patterns are drawn by overlapping periodically, is attractive.

Tokyo Camii | Chapel| 礼拝堂

In the beautiful chapel, several domes overlap to create a beautiful space inside.

Once inside the chapel, the world of Islam expands and you forget you are in Tokyo.

Be careful not to disturb the devout Islamic youth as they may be worshiping in the chapel.

There is a sacred atmosphere from them.

When entering the chapel, women must wear a stole or scarf to hide their hair.

You can rent it at the entrance of the chapel, but if you have, you should bring a stole or scarf.

Tokyo Camii| Halal Shop| ハラールショップ

There is a halal shop in Tokyo Camii.

Halal means that it is permitted in Islam, and there is a shop in Tokyo Camii that sells what Muslims can eat.

Frozen foods and meats are sold at the Halal shop.

There were even some cakes.

The halal shop sells various types of dried fruits and nuts such as dates.

A lot of food is sold, which is rare in Japan.

Not only food but also small items that are perfect for souvenirs are on sale.

It’s a little trip to Turkey that you can do in Japan.

Access

Tokyo Camii is a 5-minute walk from Yoyogi-Uehara Station on the Odakyu and Chiyoda lines.

You can see the Tokyo Camii Tower on the train from Higashikitazawa Station of the Odakyu Line to Yoyogi-Uehara Station.
